6 Tarot Cards for Honoring Yourself

Trusting yourself and your intuition is key to success in life and in reading the cards. You will not be able to move deeper into your tarot understanding until you completely trust your inner voice.

These six tarot cards will help you with honoring yourself and will show you how to play with your inner wisdom so that you can learn to trust your own guidance.

STAY FOCUSED ON ABUNDANCE

Nine of Cups
Sincere gratitude is the antidote to worry and lack. Devote as much pleasure and attention as you can toward the activities, hobbies, people and projects that fill you up. Be proud of what you CAN do. Be patient with the process and yourself. And be open to every possibility, synchronicity, and unexpected surprise that may come your way.

GENEROUS SELF-AWARENESS

Learn the Four of Pentacles tarot card meanings.
Four of Pentacles
If you don’t change your habits and patterns, nothing in your life will change. Desiring comfort and security is perfectly normal. It’s also perfectly dangerous. You will have to take risks to see change in your life. Control and power are assets, but only when used within yourself. True power comes from self-discipline, generosity, and confident humility.

SUBCONSCIOUS WISDOM

Learn The High Priestess tarot card meanings for honoring yourself.
The High Priestess
The High Priestess is the deepest of your spiritual guides. She shows you the mysteries of your subconscious and helps you give a voice to your instincts. Your subconscious speaks to you through your dreams. Keep a notebook by your bed and record your dreams immediately after waking up. Take note of any patterns or messages from your subconscious when you are dreaming and translate them into your daily life.

COMMIT IN A BIG WAY

Learn the Seven of Swords tarot card meanings.
Seven of Swords
If you have been going half-assed on your goals and dreams, this is the time to shape up. If your situation hasn’t improved in the last year (or last five years!) it’s because you haven’t made it a priority. Commit to the long haul and do the work without cheating, looking for quick-fixes, or taking short-cuts. You can’t ignore your problems any longer. The truth will quickly come out.

TAKE BIGGER RISKS

Learn The Fool tarot card meanings.
The Fool
When you are wondering what will happen next, The Fool shows up to tell you something awesome is about to happen. It’s time to take a risk with your life. Ask for the raise, invite your crush out on an actual date, or book that one-way ticket to the tropics. We only grow through experience, and The Fool is sending you on an adventure to gain the knowledge and confidence you need for this new life.

GENTLE PERSEVERANCE

Learn the Temperance tarot card meanings.
Temperance
This card serves as a reminder to remain patient and go with the flow. You can’t ever control other people, but you can be patient as they learn their own mistakes. This includes yourself! Be patient with yourself as you learn the tough lessons of life and growth. Keep on the path, never give up, and be extremely gentle with yourself.

How was your week, my tarot-loving friend? I’m already missing New Orleans, although I don’t leave for another week. I’m headed back to see family (with a short detour for a writing conference in the Windy City), and I’m missing them like crazy, but it’s still hard to leave this city that has my heart. Like many things in life, traveling is awesome, but sometimes it’s HARD.

1. TAROT + PERSONALITY TYPES – Life got a lot simpler for me when I discovered my true personality type (INTP). This quirky post by Jennifer Soldner maps each of the 16 Myers Brigg Personality Types with a tarot card. If you don’t know your type, there’s a quick quiz here.

2. THE MYTHICAL NEG – Although mansplaining, negging, peacocking, and gaslighting drive me nuts, I’m actually a fan of some aspects of the Pick Up Community. Having those patriarchal, objectifying, and brutally unhealthy techniques creep into the woo-woo and mystical world, however is bullshit. This post by Lisa Fabrega is about negging and what to do when you see it happening in our communities.

3. MORNING PAGES – It’s no secret that journaling (especially tarot journaling) has been a life-changer for me, but I didn’t actually start with journaling with my tarot cards. I started by doing Morning Pages, a la Julia Cameron. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, this short post sums what Morning Pages are, how to practice them, and their effects quite nicely.

4. COLLATERAL – If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if you combined the movie Love, Actually (one of my favorites) with PTSD, xenophobia, and murder…the answer is Collateral, a 4-episode TV drama that I’m recommending to everyone. It’s dark, but WOW.

5. A NEW TAROT SPREAD – If you’re feeling disconnected and untrusting of the world (like you might be after watching Collateral), here’s a tarot spread for authentically connecting with other people. There’s a printable tarot journal page, too, so you can use it as often as you need.

MORE THINGS TO LOVE…reading books that make my brain hurt…watching grippingly dark British TV with a strong female lead (Doctor Foster)…eating all the springtime berries…and sending postcards to the people I love.

6 Tarot Cards for Finding Your Purpose

To live a loving, healthy, and meaningful life, you must have a greater purpose. Finding purpose or living your purpose does not need to be world-changing, time-consuming, or all-encompassing. It can be as simple as a devotion to your family, pets, garden, or hobbies.

Purpose is born when we combine self-awareness, commitment, and a generous heart. These six tarot cards will help you define your purpose and live your life with purposeful intention.

LETTING GO

Learn the Eight of Swords tarot card meanings for finding purpose.
Eight of Swords
You are too wrapped in the material world of wishing and wanting things to be different than they actually are. The Universe is unlimited and infinite. This disconnect between your ego’s striving and the Universe’s abundance is keeping you locked in a prison of your own making. Let the Universe do it’s job. It WANTS you to thrive, succeed, and be the best version of yourself.

LOOKING BACK TO MOVE FORWARD

Learn the Six of Cups tarot card meanings.
Six of Cups
Look toward your past for lessons about the present. To find purpose and meaning for your life, investigate what you loved to do as a child or teenager. Your life-long interests, combined with your natural talents and learned skills, will guide you to find the place in your world where you can have the most impact.

FOCUSING ON THE POSITIVE

Learn the Nine of Cups tarot card meanings.
Nine of Cups
Your attention causes whatever you focus on to grow. If you focus on problems, you’ll have more problems. If you pay attention and show gratitude for the positives in your life, you’ll have more things to feel good about. Instead of incremental progress on improving your weaknesses, throw all of your attention toward your strengths and natural talents.

LISTENING DEEPLY

Learn The Hermit tarot card meanings.
The Hermit
When you are looking for your Purpose, The Hermit whispers, “You already have all of the answers you need. You just need to go deep within yourself to find them.” Hone your intuition through deep self-knowledge. Quiet contemplation, meditation, and removal from the stresses and hassles of your daily life will help you strengthen your inner voice and self-trust.

YOU ARE READY

Learn The Judgment tarot card meanings.
Judgment
You see clearly. You know exactly what your passions, desires, values, and purpose are. You know your place in the world and how you can best serve. And with this information, you can’t stay stuck. You have no choice but to remove everything that no longer fits with who you are and move into living the life you were meant to live. You are ready to take action.

STAYING THE COURSE

Learn the Knight of Wands tarot card meanings.
Knight of Wands
Despite this crusader’s free-spirit, The Knight of Wands has got a sense of purpose and a very strong will. When it comes to your own life, pursue your own dreams with enthusiasm. The Knight of Wands will help you get your projects started and keep you encouraged and committed during the journey.

How was your week, my tarot-loving friend? I’m back in New Orleans, grateful to spend a few more weeks with the people and city I love. I’m headed to Chicago after this, and I’m hoping Spring will have finally arrived when I get there!

1. A TAROT SPREAD FOR HEALTHY EMOTIONS – Mental health issues have been on my mind lately – I think it’s winter that brings the blues for a lot of us. This Tarot Spread for Healthy Emotions isn’t a cure-all, but it will help you name and identify your common emotional patterns and language, which is a start.

2. MEN + MENTAL HEALTH – Related to mental health, this roundup of handsome men getting honest about their struggles really hit a nerve with me and many of my friends. The world would be a better place if we felt comfortable talking about these things more often.

3. TAROT FOR MENTAL HEALTH – And here’s Biddy Tarot’s take on one aspect of mental health that so many people struggle with: addiction and recovery.

3. RACISM IN THE COMMUNITY – NOT related to mental health, but it is related to keeping ourselves and our community healthy: the racist alt-right movement is targeting and infiltrating the pagan community to spread their propaganda and hate. Being forewarned is the first step in protecting the values we really stand for, like love, acceptance, and boundaries.

4. PRINTABLE TAROT SPREAD – If you struggle with setting and maintaining boundaries, this tarot spread will help. I’ve included a PDF printable tarot journaling page, so you can dive as deep as you need to.

5. STRENGTHEN THE STRONG – And while you’re at it, here are the 6 Best Tarot Cards to Strengthen Your Strengths. We all have unique talents, abilities, preferences, and beliefs, and this post includes actionable tips to make your own personal strengths even stronger.

MORE THINGS TO LOVE…fresh cafe au lait made proper…watching creative people make tiny little things…hiking in the swamp…hiking through the forest…and hiking pretty much anywhere, really.

6 Tarot Cards for Strengthening Your Strengths

Strengthening strengths is far easier than strengthening weaknesses. By focusing our energy on strengthening our personal strengths, we are able to grow quickly and easily. The same amount of energy spent on improving our personal weak spots will only result in small, incremental changes that do not have the same effect. These six tarot cards will help you strengthen your strengths.

GROW & SHARE

Learn the Three of Pentacles tarot card meanings.
Three of Pentacles
Honing your personal strengths is not a selfish act. Your unique abilities allow you to serve the world. Your work matters. Becoming the best, wisest, and most impactful version of yourself matters, too. By practicing and perfecting your thoughts, your beliefs, and your abilities, you’ll become a tool for healing, change, and growth for yourself and others.

STRENGTH THROUGH CHALLENGE

Learn the Five of Wands tarot card meanings.
Five of Wands
You are ready to go All In and commit with total focus and discipline to yourself. Win or lose, you’ll at least know you gave it your all, which is the ultimate success. When I say give it your all, I mean ALL. Most of us do “just enough” to get the job done, without ever committing to see what our full potential actually looks like. With the Five of Wands, you are ready to commit beyond anything you’ve done before.

START STRONG & NEVER GIVE UP

Learn the Ace of Pentacles tarot card meanings.
Ace of Pentacles
If you are questioning your path or starting a new quest, you are in the right place and you are ready. Pursue your ideas. Change won’t happen overnight, but it is guaranteed to happen if you keep taking daily action toward your goals without quitting. Success is 100% within your power and control.

STRENGTH IN VULNERABILITY

Learn the Ace of Cups tarot card meanings.
Ace of Cups
Let yourself be open and receptive to the help, resources, and ideas that come your way. You can’t do it all – and you don’t need to. Focus on the things you do best and allow yourself to accept help and assistance from others. They WANT to help you! Let them shine in their own way.

FOUNDATIONAL STRENGTH

Learn the King of Pentacles tarot card meanings.
King of Pentacles
The King of Pentacles knows his time on this Earth in this body is fleeting, so he is committed to fully living and learning while he is here. Follow the King’s guidance and create a daily practice of self-care and self-awareness for yourself. Commit to confronting your fears and excuses so you can live your life as your biggest, best self. Don’t let yourself play small.

POWER & SELF-BELIEF

Learn the Strength tarot card meanings to help with strengthening strengths.
Strength
The lessons of the Strength card come from mastering yourself with acceptance and unconditional love. Hold faith in your plans and yourself, and don’t lose hope. Things may not be going as well as you’d like, but you absolutely have the power and ability to control what matters.

How was your week, my tarot-loving friend? I’ve been exploring Austin, Texas, which means walking around pretending I’m hipper than I actually am. It’s a great city – so much music, great food, and healthy fun things to try out. But I head back to New Orleans next week, and that place just feels so much more like home. 🙂

1. DREAM JOURNAL – To you keep a dream journal? I’ve always wanted to, but just haven’t committed to the practice. This post about setting up and using a dream journal (and, really, pretty much every post from Interrobang Tarot) is super detailed, helpful, and interesting.

2. REAL SELF-CARE – Self-care, the real kind, isn’t always fun or pleasurable. This wonderful post from BohoBerry outlines the difference between indulgence and honest self-care.

3. TAKING ACTION – We’ve been talking about Taking Action in the TCM Membership community, and I’ve become totally obsessed by the simplicity of how well the diagrams in this post describe the differences between real action and wheel spinning.

4. TAKING ACTION WITH TAROT – And here are the 6 Best Tarot Cards for Taking Action, with tips on how to approach the topic from all angles.

5. CREATE YOUR OWN TAROT DECK – It’s so useful to create a “study deck” of flashcards when you’re first starting learning the tarot card meanings. I recommend this post all of the time for people who want to create their own cards.

MORE THINGS TO LOVE…Fish tacos…long walks along the river (any river!)…making winter plans that make me feel good…and celebrating a big birthday month along with friends.
