9 Steps through the Major Arcana for Forgiveness

Carrying the weight of past hurts drags down our energy, health, and enthusiasm for life. Forgiveness is a practice that is scientifically proven to help us feel happier, more optimistic, and more self-confident.

Forgiveness is NOT about:

  • condoning behavior (failing to see it as wrong)
  • excusing behavior (failing to hold the offender as responsible for their actions and the pain they’ve caused)
  • forgetting behavior (failing to remember that the pain happened)
  • or reconciling the relationship.

Forgiveness IS:

  • a decision only you get to make. No one can force you to forgive if you are not ready.
  • a trainable skill. You can learn how to forgive others and yourself.
  • a journey of understanding, exploration, and effort. It will not happen overnight and it may not be easy, but each step takes you closer to closure and healing.
  • about peace, not justice. The people who hurt you may never be punished for their actions, but that shouldn’t prevent you from moving on with your life.

3. The Hanged Man

Understand that you do not need to reconcile with the person who hurt you if you don’t want to. Forgiveness is not about making them (or others) feel better. It’s about making YOU feel better.

4. Death

Recognize that the pain you are feeling now is from the hurt feelings, thoughts, and physical upset you are experiencing NOW. The pain and upset you are feeling NOW is not coming from the experiences of your past. That pain is over and will always remain in the past.

6. The Devil

Understand you can never control someone’s else’s behavior. While you may want love, friendship, understanding, or an apology from others, nothing you do or say will ever guarantee you get what you desire. Hoping for their love and acceptance is healthy and understandable, but attempting to force or control their behavior is ineffective and unhealthy.

7. The Star

Use your energy in positive ways to reach the goals that matter to you. Don’t define yourself by the pain you hold or the experiences you’ve survived.

8. The Sun

Remember that a life well-lived is always the best revenge. Surround yourself with love, beauty, and kindness. Be grateful for what you have, rather than focusing your energy on what you’ve lost.

Change the way you look at your past so you become the hero of your life. Remind yourself that your choice of forgiveness is a heroic act. You’ve grown and changed because of your past experiences and the process of forgiveness. You are now able to take the lessons you’ve learned and move on to a better future.

Tarot and Life Goodies

Tarot tips and resources from Tarot Card Mastery.

How was your week, my tarot-loving friend? I’ve been packing up all my belongings for my annual Spring migration, eating cheese curds and Swedish pancakes, and generally saying my last goodbyes to winter. But I’ve also rounded up some great tarot goodies to share with you this week…

1. IS THE LAW OF ATTRACTION NOT WORKING FOR YOU? – Does it seem like your life is stuck, no matter how much you try to follow the Law of Attraction. This great post by Sarah Prout with the 7 reasons why your intentions aren’t manifesting yet might have a few answers for you.

2. NEW TAROT SPREADS – Check out these two new tarot spreads I’ve put together. (Each one comes with it’s own printable journal page, too). There’s a spread for putting yourself first and one for building a circle of support in your life.

3. USING THE TAROT FOR PLANNING? – I’m totally on Team Type-A Tarot, so I’m all about this post about using David Allen’s Getting Things Done (GTD) system with the tarot. Tarot + project management = my dream world.

4. OR NOT? – And, as a counter point, Camelia Elias has a great post about the power of NOT planning.

5. UPPING MY JOURNAL GAME – I’ll be traveling full-time for the foreseeable future, so I’m obsessing about how to continue tarot journaling without actually carrying all those journaling supplies. I like this post, because it helps to keep things simple.

6. OOOO, PRETTY JOURNALS – And this is what I dream of creating – a beautiful travel journal. This post is extremely detailed and full of ideas on how to create a travel journal that will be useful AND beautiful. My aspirations are bigger than my abilities, but it’s a lovely dream!

MORE THINGS TO LOVE…Snuggles with nieces who have gotten too big…finding the perfect tea mug at the thrift store…tiny baggies of travel spices…discovering a local-to-New-Orleans author I love…and getting ready for my sleeper-car adventure!

All my love,

Tarot Tips from Learn Tarot With Me for March.

How was your week, my tarot-loving friend? I’m knocked down with (another!) sinus infection, so I’m holed up in bed with books and my laptop. But I’ve got some great tarot goodies to share with you this week…

1. Get my favorite life-and-business planner for FREE – The 2018 edition of the Your Best Year planner is now available, for FREE. It’s dated for 2018, so you’ll still get 9 months of goodness out of it. This isn’t a daily/weekly planner – it’s more like a tough-love workbook for making sure your 2018 goals happen. Here’s a video showing how I use this planner combined with my tarot deck for Big Picture planning.

2. SHARING TAROT LOVE – I’m waiting eagerly to see what Jess Carlson is going to come up with next. She’s a bright light in my small tarot world, and always an inspiration. While she’s working on her new website & offerings, I’ll be stalking her on Instagram.

3. CELESTIAL QUEENS – Didn’t you just love seeing all of the posts about International Women’s Day yesterday? This one stood out as my favorite. Fashion & history & some beautiful badass women!

4. SPEAKING OF FASHION – After watching the Oscars and seeing how some of my favorite women have chosen to age (or attempted NOT to), I’ve been thinking a lot about my own aging choices. I’m having a harder time with 41 than I did with 40, but this unexpected post about fashion has directed my thinking towards a healthier place. I love this “wise woman” era of my life, but damn if I don’t miss non-achy joints!

5. GETTING A GOOD TAROT READING – Lately, there have been some stories about people getting ripped off by their tarot readers. Here’s a great post from Ethony about how to make sure you get a good tarot reading.

6. I’M HEADED HOME!!! – Start prepping my gumbo now! I’m taking the train down to New Orleans in a few weeks and I’m so excited to spend time in this sweet, adopted home of mine. I’m re-reading Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins, which captures this city so well…

The minute you land in New Orleans, something wet and dark leaps on you and starts humping you like a swamp dog in heat, and the only way to get that aspect of New Orleans off you is to eat it off. That means beignets and crayfish bisque and jambalaya, it means shrimp remoulade, pecan pie, and red beans with rice, it means elegant pompano au papillote, funky file z’herbes, and raw oysters by the dozen, it means grillades for breakfast, a po’ boy with chowchow at bedtime, and tubs of gumbo in between. It is not unusual for a visitor to the city to gain fifteen pounds in a week–yet the alternative is a whole lot worse. If you don’t eat day and night, if you don’t constantly funnel the indigenous flavors into your bloodstream, then the mystery beast will go right on humping you, and you will feel its sordid presence rubbing against you long after you have left town.

MORE THINGS TO LOVE…Family dinner nights at IKEA…supporting great people doing important work…finding the perfect tea cup at the thrift store…getting a haircut that makes me feel like a secret-agent-spy…and making summer plans to see the Leonard Cohen mural in Montreal.

All my love,
Angie Green from Learn Tarot With Me
P.S. I just finished the edits for the Tarot Card Mastery book!!! Expect an exciting announcement soon…

6 Tarot Cards for Stronger Relationships

We all desire stronger, deeper, more loving relationships but those relationships take work. It takes skill and practice to ask for help from others, just as it takes practice to give loving and empowering support. To have more authentic and loving relationships, take the following action steps to deepen the levels of support you give to the people you love.

Here are a few strategies for giving support that you can practice to strengthen relationships with your friends, family, and co-workers.

TOUCH EACH OTHER

Understand the Six of Cups tarot card to help you strengthen your relationships.
Six of Cups (innocent sensual pleasures)
Physical touch does not have to be restricted to the children and romantic partners in your life. Hug your friends when you see them, even if you saw them yesterday. When you are talking, touch someone’s shoulder, wrist, or hand to let them know you are paying exclusive attention to them.

SAY “I LOVE YOU” AND “I APPRECIATE YOU”

Understand the Ten of Cups tarot card to help you strengthen your relationships.
Ten of Cups (shared gratitude)
No one ever hears it enough. Tell your friends and family you love them every chance you get. Let everyone you know how grateful you are that they are in your life.

BE THEIR BIGGEST FAN

Understand The Star tarot card to help you strengthen your relationships.
The Star (shining a light)
Brag about your friend or partner in front of other people. Compliment them, thank them, and appreciate them in public. Teasing or tearing someone down in public, even if it’s meant as a joke, destroys your relationship and makes you look mean.

BE THERE

Understand the Four of Wands tarot card to help you strengthen your relationships.
Four of Wands (shared celebrations)
Sometimes, all it takes is your presence. When they have a gallery opening, give a reading, or receive an award – be there. Attend the weddings, funerals, and birthday parties, as well as the piano recitals, basketball games, and picnics. Show up to book club, arrive on time for lunch, and show them you care by being present when you are together.

GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT

Understand the Six of Pentacles tarot card to help you strengthen your relationships.
Six of Pentacles (generosity)
Some people want to talk through their problems, other people need space. Some people are looking for advice, and others want to vent. Be sure you know what your friends and family want. Ask them explicitly, “What do you want right now?” if you don’t know.

SAY THE WORDS

Understand the Queen of Cups tarot card to help you strengthen your relationships.
Queen of Cups (unconditional emotional support)
When things really get tough, be sure the other person knows you’re always there. Say, “I believe in you,” or “You are the best ____ I know,” when they feel self-doubt. Say, “Don’t worry about ____, I’ve got it,” when they are overwhelmed. And always, always, always say “I love you” and “I appreciate you.”
